Trip to Stonehenge, Salisbury sculpture park and Salisbury Cathedral

We got up on a very sunny morning at a very early time (6am) to meet outside the youth hostel. Gerard was taking us to see stonehenge, one of the most poular and oldest historical attractions in England.

We arrive to have the sun shine right through alot of the standing stones. we were also surprised by how close it was to a few major roadways in england. Apparently it’s under review for having it’s close tourist shop and car parking lots covered with ground dirt again so that when one can experience it, there is no highway noise from the roads. Personally, i didn’t find the car noise that awful, but i can see how it might upset some sort of pre concieveed dead silence others might think is around the rocks.

From there, we ventured to the Salisbury Sculpture park, where some prominent sculpture artists from the UK have exhibited pieces and Barry Flanagan had a show of earlier work exhibited in the gallery.

our tour guide was great, allowing for some discussion of works as we came across them. many works were scattered about the garden, with this one Private home that wasn’t welcoming of guest photography. I ended up drawing the darn place, just on that rule alone.

We then went to the Salisbury cathedral. here, we were told that the heights of the central tower would be one part of the tour, while the other was a ground trip around the base of the place. I was only going to go so far as the spiral staircase made of wood, as i have quite a big fear of heights (place that next to walking on creaking wooden stairs and you got me).

We ended off the trip by heading to some eateries for some supper, after that, then making the trip back to the youth hostel in Bath.

A few of us even went for a sort-of "luncheon in the grass" style drink or two in the nearby fields, overlooking Bath's beauty as it lit up in the night sky.
